Trend Colors and Personal Colors

It’s cool to follow the fashion trends and wear “trend color” clothes and items, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But it’s also good to know how those “trend colors” become “trends” and to take a moment to think about it. You might want to find colors that suit you better instead of choosing colors to wear just because they’re trends.

How do certain colors become trends?

So who decides “trend colors”? The answer is Intercolor (International Study Commission for Color.)

Intercolor is a non-profit organization, formed in 1963, whose members are an interdisciplinary group of color experts, representing national associations and consultants working for global players in textiles, fashion and product design. They currently are made up of 16 member countries across Europe, Asia and America, and includes China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Korea, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and the United States of America.

They set “trend colors” for Spring/Summer in June and Fall/Winter in December of 2 years before the actual target seasons.

So that means the colors that your favorite models are wearing right now in your favorite magazines were already decided 2 years ago. The trend colors become trends not because everyone wears, they were chosen as “trends” by Intercolor before everyone wears.
